A Note about the Origins of the Course

The first Advanced Criminal Law course was offer In the Spring, 2006. The focus of that course was the jury instructions used in homicide cases in West Virginia. [West Virginia Homicide Jury Instructions Project]

The second offering of Advanced Criminal Law, in the Spring, 2007, focused on the Jeffrey MacDonald murder case. [Advanced Criminal Law: Jeffrey MacDonald Case]. In the Spring, 2009 and 2011, the course focused on the trials and murder convictions of Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley who would later be known as the West Memphis 3.
