Josiah Andrews was born in Augusta, Maine, on August 1, 1799. He was a lawyer by profession. He moved from Augusta to Perry, New York and lived there for some years. According to the ever so brief bio in The Poets of Maine, Andrews "was very favorably known as a poet."

He died on November 16, 1847, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania en route to the West Indies.
