John Alan Appleman

(1912-1982)

John A. Appleman was born on May 14, 1912 at Webster Groves, Missouri. He obtained a B.A. degree from the University of Illinois in 1933 and his J.D. in 1935. He returned to school in 1950 to obtain an M.A. degree. Appleman was a practicing attorney who specialized in trial work. He served as president of Disability & Casualty Inter-Insurance Exchange, Jalco, Universal Drug and Research Laboratories, Inc., Universal Research Products, Inc., and Annuity Agency Co.

Appleman is the author of numerous legal practitioner books and was a contributor to the Encyclopedia Britanica, World Book Encyclopedia, and the Tort and Medical Yearbook. He wrote over a hundred articles on legal and other subjects for Reader's Digest, Rotarian, and Woman's Day.
