Bur Conley

(1870- )
Kansas

"In 1879 Bur Conley moved with his parents to Kansas where he attended the Iola schools. In 1884 he engaged in the printing business, since which time he has plyed his trade in almost every large city in the United States. He returned to Iola in 1893, abandoned the printers' art, and has now taken up the study of law." [Thomas W. Herringshaw (ed.), Poets and Poetry of Kansas 154 (Chicago: American Publishers' Association, 1894)] [See: Brian Moline & M.H. Hoeflich, Some Kansas Lawyer-Poets, 55 U. Kan. L. Rev. 971, 983 (2007). Moline and Hoeflich note that Conley was born in Iowa. He took up the study of law in 1893. Moline and Hoeflich do not indicate whether Conley went on to become a lawyer. We have found no further information about to suggest that he did not survive his studies and take up the practice of law.'
