Hal Milford Perkins Hal Milford Perkins was born in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Dr. Jacob and Eleanor Black Perkins. His parents died when he was a teenager and he moved to Panola County, Mississippi when he was about sixteen years old. He attended local schools and studied law. Upon admission to the bar he practiced law at Sardis, Mississippi but moved to Sherman, Texas in 1890. Perkins eventually abandoned the legal profession and in 1898 became a Presbyterian minister serving in Texas, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. [Source: James B.
