Charles Laban Abernethy, Jr.

Charles L. Abernethy, Jr. was born in 1901 in Rutherford, North Carolina. He attended high school in New Bern, North Carolina studied for two years at the University of North Carolina, then obtained his degree from Harvard University in 1922. He obtained his law degree from Wake Forest in 1924, after studying law at both Harvard and Trinity (now Duke University). He became a partner in the practice of law by joining his father, Charles L. Abernethy, Sr., who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from the Third District of North Carolina from 1922 to 1935. They practiced law in Beaufort, North Carolina.
