Charles J. Barrett
Charles J. Barrett was born in the old Barrett hmestead on Valley Street, Suth Organe, New Jersey and according to his Poems and Addresses "lived in the vicinity all his life." He was an author of plays written for amateur production that were produced in Orange, and a book of poems titled Verses Viridescent that he wrote in collobration with his brother, Timothy Barrett. "His poems have frequently appeared in Catholic papers, to which he also occasionally contributed special articles on current topics." Barrett Memorial Committee of the New Jersey State Council, Knights of Columbus, 1908)] "By profession . . . Barrett was a lawyer . . . . He was a graduate of the New York Law School; and after his admission to the bar . . . opened an office in South Orange." Before his death, he was appointed village counsel. [Id. at 5] "He served as Water Superintendent for several years, and was Tax Collector for eleven years. For twenty years he was Secretary of the South Organge Building and Loan Association. He was collector and counsel of the Firemen's Relief Association, and a member of the village fire department, and a former Vice-Present of the Exempt Firemen's Association." [Id.] Poetry Charles J.
