William Penn Boudinot, a native Cherokee, served in various capacities and positions with the Cherokee Government. He was, at various times, editor of the national journal, the Cherokee Advocate. Boudinot compiled and resided the laws of the Cherokee Nation, and was placed in charge of the public schools. Boudinot pacticed law, and was a writer of verse (although how much verse he wrote as an adult we have not ascertained). [Source: Paul & Dottie Ridenour]
