Enoch Lloyd Cowart Enoch Cowart was a merchant, politician, poet, soldier, and farmer. He studied law under Daniel B. Ryall (ca. 1835-1836), and clerked for John T. Woodhull in Freehold (1837). Cowart's son, Samuel Craig Cowart, following in the footsteps of his father, also studied law and became a poet.
