William Hubbell Fisher

(1843-1909)
Ohio & New York

William Hubbell Fisher, "lawyer, was born in Albany, N.Y., but after he was three years old lived in Cincinnati, where his father was a Presbyterian minister. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1864, studied law at Columbia University, and was admitted to the bar in 1867. He practiced in Utica, N.Y., 1867-70, and thereafter in Cincinnati. His death occurred in Cincinnati." [William Coyle (ed.), Ohio Authors and Their Books 213 (Cleveland: World Publishing Co., 1962)] [The Fisher bio is used here with the gracious permission of the Ohioana Library Association.] [Coyle, in contrast to various sources that place Fisher's birthdate as November 26, 1843, indicates that Fisher was born January 2, 1937.]

Fisher seems to have been a patent lawyer and a naturalist; he appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court in at least one patent case, Gosling v. Roberts (a case reported in 1882). He obtained his LL.B. from Columbia in 1867, the year he was admitted to the bar.
