John H. Flagg "Mr. Flagg was born in Wilmington, Vt., July 11, 1843. He was educated at Wilbraham Academy, and at Albany (N.Y.) Law School; was admitted to the bar in 1864; practiced at Wilmington and Bennington, Vt., for five years; and was Clerk of the Vermont House of Representatives (1864-8). In 1869, his health being bad, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he served as Clerk of the U.S. Senate for eight years. He then resumed his law practice, specializing in commercial cases. Moving to New York, he became counsel for The Standard Oil Company. His prose and verse appeared in many magazines. In 1900 he was severely injured in a street accident, and was confined to his room thereafter. He died May 1, 1911." [Walter John Coates (ed.), A Bibliography
