Joseph Warren Gardiner
Thos. W. Herringshaw (ed.), Local and National Poets of America 936 Joseph Warren Gardiner was born at North Kingston, Rhode Island on March 2, 1836. "Mr. Gardiner studied medicine for two years, and later became a school teacher. After his marriage he was admitted to the bar. His health compelled him to move to Florida. Mr. Gardiner has lived at different times in many of the states of the union . . . . He has published several newspapers, and is at present editor and proprietor of the Dixie Optic, at Jefferson, N.C. He has a large amount of unpublished matter both in poetry and prose, which he hopes soon to publish." [Thos. W. He also served as prosecuting attorney, judge, and United States pension agent, among other public positions. His prose and poetry appeared in the periodical press.
