Henry Oakes Kent

"Kent was born in Lancaster, February 7, 1834, and was the oldest son of Richard Peabody and Emily Oakes Kent. He was educated in the district schools and academy of Lancaster, and graduated from Norwich University in 1854 at the age of twenty years. He studied law in the office of Jacob Benton, and was admitted to the New Hampshire bar in 1858 and at once entered upon the active duties of life in the home of his birth . . . ." [Henry Oakes Kent

From 1858 until 1870, Kent was the owner and editor of the Coos Republican. He then became engaged in business, banking, manufacturing, and farming.
