John McDowell Leavitt "Leavitt, John McDowell (May 10, 1824-Dec.
12, 1909), clergyman and educator, was born in Steubenville, Jefferson
County. After graduating from Jefferson College in 1841, he studied
law. He practiced a short time in Cincinnati and then attended the
seminary at Gambier. He was ordained to the Episcopal priesthood
in 1848. He taught at Kenyon College and Ohio University and was
president of Lehigh University and St. John's College, Md."
