John Lowell

John Lowell was born at Newbury, Massachusetts in 1743 (1744 according to Samuel Kettell). He was educated at Harvard and took up the practice of law. In 1761 he moved to Boston where he served in various political offices, including the convention which formed the Constitution of Massachusetts. In 1771 he was elected to Congress and in 1782 was apppinted Judge of the Court of Appeals, and then a Judge of the U.S. Circuit Court.
