James Niall McKane "McKane, James Niall.— Born at Derrygonnelly, Co. Fermanagh, in 1849, and in his youth went to U.S.A. Was educated there and was called to the American Bar. He contributed to The Nation, in the sixties, over signature of 'J.N.McK.' His best-know poem, 'McMahon's Defiance,' is in 'Irish Penny Readings' and Connolly's 'Household Library of Ireland's Poets.' He died in September, 1878." [Source: D. J.
