Jacob Oberlender was born on August 30, 1840 at Tarlton, Ohio. "As an attorney at law, this gentleman has gained quite a reputation at St. Francis, Kansas where he is connected with the firm of Finley & Oberlender. His poems have occasionally appeared in the local press, and his spare moments are employed in the compilation of a volume of his productions, which he hopes to publish at an early date."
