Thomas Quick Thomas Quick was born near Belleville, Illinois. He was educated at McKendree College, Lebanon, Illinois; he studied law with George Trumbull and was admitted to the bar in 1846. He begin his law practice at Waterloo, Illinois and later practiced law in Belleville. Quick served as bank commissioner of Illinois in 1857, a position he held for eight years. In 1858, Quick retired to his farm in Irvington but continue to hold classes for law students. In 1874, Quick moved to East St. Louis where he lived for two years before returning to Belleville where he remained until 1881 when he moved back to East St. Louis. At the time The Bench and Bar . . . appeared in 1884, he had a volume of poetry ready for publication.
