A.B. Spellman Alfred Bennet Spellman was born in Nixonton, North Carolina on August 7, 1935. He attended Howard University where he obtain his undergraduate degree in 1952, and his law degree in 1959. Spellman worked during the 1960s in Greenwich Village bookstore and wrote poetry and music reviews for Kulchu Jazz, Metronome, and Downbeat.
