—San Francisco lawyer

Clarence Townsend gave a student address at the commencement at the College of California-Oakland (now the University of California) in 1866. The first graduates of the College of California received their degrees in June, 1864 in Oakland. The University of California-Berkeley Blue and Gold Yearbook, class of 1886 has an entry for: "CLARENCE F. TOWNSEND, A. B. San Francisco Lawyer. Member of Legislature. Solicitor. 1867." Apparently, Townsend received his A.B. in 1867.
