George Henry Walser
"WALSER, GEORGE H., soldier, lawyer, poet, was born May 26, 1834, in Dearborn county, Ind. In 1857 he began the practice of law in Middleport, Ill., and in 1861 he was the first man to volunteer as a soldier, and was elected captain of company I, twentieth regiment Illinois volunteer infantry. Failing health caused his resignation, and in 1863 he settled in Missouri, and three years later resumed the practice of his profession . . . . He is still a resident of Liberal, Mo., which town he laid out in 1881, founding the town on the basis of free thought and mental liberty. He here also founded the Spiritual Institute and Home, of which institution he is professor of psychology."
